OVERVIEW
The TASER M26C
Electronic Control Devices (ECDs) when fired delivers an
incapacitating pulse that overrides the sensory and motor
functions of the nervous system. This powerful Neuro
Muscular Incapacitation (NMI) technology can stop even the
most aggressive individuals, including those under the
influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
TASER ECDs use replaceable cartridges containing inert,
compressed nitrogen to fire two small probes that are
attached to 15 foot (4.5 meter) insulated conductive wires.
Energy is sent over the wires into the probes, which can
penetrate up to two cumulative inches of clothing. The
charge is transmitted between the two probes, jamming
sensory and motor functions, and inhibiting muscular
control. This NMI effect continues in 5-10 second cycles
each time you press the trigger. The M26c
and M26XC can also
be used in direct contact stun mode.
FEATURES
The TASER M26C
features:
Neuro Muscular Incapacitation
The key technology to disable even the most aggressive
subjects, NMI temporarily overrides the command and control
systems of the body to impair muscular control.
Shaped Pulse™ Technology
A sophisticated pulse wave that uses a high voltage leading
edge to penetrate barriers, such as clothing, and then
delivers a lower voltage NMI pulse across the bodys surface.
Taser Cartridge
A replaceable unit that that fires two small probes
connected to 15 foot (4.5 meter) wires that transmit the NMI
pulse to the target.
Laser and
Illuminator Integration
User configurable settings control laser and low-intensity
illumination synchronous with safety switch operation.
Anti-Felon Identification (AFID)
A system to deter misuse through enhanced accountability,
AFID includes bar-coded serialization of each cartridge and
disperses confetti-like ID tags upon activation.
Digital Power Magazine (DPM)
Integrated power source for the M26c
with lithium battery
cells and solid state memory module for tracking power
consumption, power levels remaining; allows for software
updates to be distributed via battery replacement.
Central Information Display (CID)
Digital display on the M26c
that communicates battery
percentage, duration remaining during pulse discharge, time,
date, and warranty status.
BENEFITS
TASER ECDs are the ONLY
devices that can consistently incapacitate aggressive,
dangerous people. They bring incredible stopping power that
has been field-tested by thousands of law enforcement
officers around the world. They are safer and more effective
than other options, such as sprays or direct contact stuns,
that require potentially dangerous chemicals or close range
to an attacker and often prove to be ineffective on
individuals under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
TASER ECDs allow you to take control of your personal
safety.
Easy To Use
Unlike other self-defense options, a TASER ECD can be used
and is effective on any area of the body. This is critically
important if youre in a highly stressful, dangerous
situation that requires you to quickly to defend yourself
and/or your loved ones. Its as easy as point and shoot.
Legal To Carry In Most States
TASER devices are not considered firearms by the U.S.
Government. They can be legally carried (concealed or open)
without permit in 43 states. Use of TASER ECDs is prohibited
in DC, HI, MA, MI, NJ, NY, RI, WI and certain other cities
and counties. Check local laws before purchasing or carrying
ECDs.

*Applies only to incidents that occur in the United States.
Responsible
TASER International is strongly committed to protecting life
and truth so go to great lengths to encourage responsible
use of our products. Each TASER cartridge is equipped with
an Anti-Felon Identification (AFID) program. Tiny,
serialized markers are loaded into each and every cartridge
we make, and each cartridge is bar-coded to match that
serial number. These serial numbers are recorded in our
shipment tracking system at the time of sale. Once a
cartridge is fired, the AFIDs are expelled from the
cartridge and provide a mechanism for police to identify the
registered owner of the device. This accountability system
helps prevent misuse of our devices and protects you.
No other self-defense device in the world - guns, knives,
sprays, or electronic defense units - can be traced from
evidence at the scene to the registration of the user. It
all comes back to registration, verification, tracking, and
responsibility.
The innovative AFID program was developed and implemented at
our own cost. It is not required by law; its just the right
thing to do.
FAQS
Is it legal to carry a
TASER M26c
?
Yes. It is legal in the United States except in Hawaii,
Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island,
Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. Additional cities,
counties, and countries might have other restrictions on the
use or possession of the TASER ECD device so check all
applicable laws and regulations carefully. Federal law
prohibits carrying or shipping TASER devices out of the U.S.
Do I have to register my
M26c
?
Yes. You need to register it with TASER International and
pass a felony background check, either online or by phone,
prior to purchase. Some states and cities might have
additional requirements so check your local laws carefully.
Are TASER electronic
control devices considered firearms?
No. TASER devices are not classified as firearms by the U.S.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATF)
because TASER cartridges use compressed, inert nitrogen gas
to launch the probes instead of gun powder.
What does it feel like to
be shot with a TASER M26c
?
Different people have different reactions, but its
definitely uncomfortable. Some people compare it to touching
a live electrical outlet except that its not localized to
the point of contact; it has more of a full body effect
where muscular control is limited for the duration of the
charge cycle. We describe it as muscle lock up because you
are generally unable to move. The NMI effect is not about
pain compliance but incapacitation in order to keep someone
down and away from you. That said, it is generally mildly to
moderately painful.
What does it feel like to
shoot a TASERM26c?
There really is no effect because unlike with firearms,
there is no recoil or kick when you shoot your M26c.
Does it cause permanent damage or injury?
Think of the NMI effect as a light switch its either
completely on or completely off. During the cycle time, the
sensory and motor function signals are confused, which
inhibits muscular control and causes incapacitation. Once
the charge cycle ends, sensory and motor functions resume
normally and allow signals to be transmitted to the muscles
- the NMI effect is off.
TASER ECDs are not risk-free, however, as injuries can
result from falls, drug/alcohol-related complications, or
other external circumstances. More detailed safety and
health information concerning the use of ECDs can be found
here.
Will it fire
accidentally?
The M26c
were designed to balance accessibility with safety.
You need to be able to reach and fire quickly if necessary
but also feel confident that your ECD wont be accidentally
discharged. For this reason, the safety switch must be in
the OFF position before it can be fired.
Is it safe to have around
children?
The M26c
and M26Xc are self-defense devices, and like other
options, should be kept out of reach of children at all
times. Both are equipped with a safety switch that must be
deliberately moved to the OFF position before the device can
be fired. Lastly TASER ECDs use medically tested,
field-proven technology that when adopted by law enforcement
agencies, has significantly reduced injury and fatality
rates of suspects, police officers, and innocent citizens.
TASER ECDs are designed to save lives by resolving dangerous
situations without escalating to lethal means.
Can I bring a TASER
M26c
device with me on a plane?
No. TASER devices are not permitted in carry-on luggage for
domestic U.S. flights. They can be packed in checked baggage
if you are traveling to a state that allows possession,
however. Federal law prohibits carrying or shipping TASER
devices out of the U.S. so international flight restrictions
apply.
Is the TASER M26c
device the same model used by law
enforcement?
Yes, both are the same body style and use the same
technology as the police version. The only difference is
that the consumer models have been engineered with a longer
cycle time than the law enforcement models. This is so you
can keep your attacker down and get yourself to safety.
Do I need special
training to use it?
As with any self-defense option, its a good idea to
understand how it work and how to operate it safely and
effectively. Training materials are included with your ECD
and cover everything you need to know about it. Other
training resources might be available in your local area if
you need them. Its also beneficial to practice shooting your
ECD in order to get comfortable with how it feels, sounds,
and aims. Extra cartridges and practice targets are
available for purchase.
How old do I have to be
to buy a TASER M26c?
You must be 18 years old or over in order to buy a TASER
M26c. What if I miss my target?
In the event that you shoot and miss, you can use your ECD
as a direct contact stun device.
How many times can I use a TASER cartridge?
Each cartridge fires once so its a good idea to keep extra
cartridges on hand.
How long does the battery last?
The Digital Power Magazine for M26c
can supply about 150
applications. As with all power sources, environmental
conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, can impact battery
life differently. For the M26c,, battery life will vary by
manufacturer and environmental conditions.
Why do I have to pass a felony background check in order to
activate my ECD?
We at TASER International live and work to Protect Life. One
of the ways we do live is by doing all we can to keep our
life-saving devices out of the hands of criminals. We will
not activate any TASER ECD without a clear felony background
check. Its the right thing to do because it protects all of
us. |
